I've been very busy working in Nick Kazan's world premiere play Mlle. God at the Atwater Village Theatre for the Ensemble Studio Theatre company where I've been a member for 25 years. I've also been very busy with the Jewish Women's Theatre group on various projects including "Tales From the Fringe: Women Rabbis Revealed" which I'm performing around my Mlle. God duties. I've also finished a two-volume book called A Lust For Acting: An Unreliable Memoir, for which I'm searching out an agent and pubisher.

From June 30, 2010: Bob wrote in with some GREAT New Updates!!!

"This is a link for a very cool online interveiw I did:
http://www.cadolphmoores.com/interviews

I'm involved with some ongoing projects:
Tom Cook who wrote Ravensridge and Out Of The Darkness has written a wonderful part for me in a new play called "Guest of The Sultan." We've been doing readings at at Ensemble Studio Theatre and hope to have a production up within the next year.

I'm also involved with the LA Jewish Women's Theatre in a project called "Tales from the Fringe: Women Rabbis Revealed!". We did this in the spring, and I played all the male characters. It was very successful and the writer/producer has been getting offers from several synagogues to perform it in the fall. They'd like me to continue with it.

Finally, I finished the first draft of a novel about show business with the working title "Recognition, or Any Resemblance is Purely Coincidental." It is definitely fiction, not a memoir, although the main character bears some (coincidental) similarity to me. Several respected authors want to read it, and if they like it may steer it to their publishers.

That's it for now, Bob"

"Hi Angela,

NEWS: I just made a deal with Creation: I WILL be a guest at the 2009 Xenacon the last weekend of January at the LA Airport Marriott. In addition to my appearance I will be appearing in the cabaret as well. Just to recall, the last time I did the cabaret in 2007 I did a piece of The Return of Brother Theodore, which led to my full one-man show in Hollywood, which led to my being nominated for Best Solo Performance in 2007 for The LA Weekly Theatre Awards. So who knows what will happen in 2009!

All the best, Bob"

Boy! I sure hope I can go to the Upcomming Xenacon!!! It sounds totally cool!!! If you are able to go, tell Bob Hi and that ALWheaties sent ya! ;)

Bob also included the synopses of several Reviews of his Play Ravensridge:

From Terry Morgan for Variety: "Trebor is superb as the acerbic Davidykov, ironically bemoaning, "We used to be such a beautiful police state," and then affectingly describing how for all of communism's faults, how important it was that the whole country was experiencing it together. Trebor's Russian accent is excellent, and his perf is multilayered and nimble." - Posted: Sun., Mar. 2, 2008

From F. Kathleen Foley for The Los Angeles Times: "It's the explosive dialectic between Viktor and Will that is the play's heart. Beautifully performed by Armstrong and Trebor, Will and Viktor are moral men adrift in societies that reward avarice over character" - Posted Feb. 29, 2008

From Frances Nicholson for Pasadena Star-News:"Robert Trebor makes the nostalgic major a complicated mixture of righteous authority and foundational extremely human honor. Watching (this) veteran actor spar may be as fine if not better than the script and character he uses to spar with."

RAVENSRIDGE From Jackie Houchin for San Gabriel Valley News: "Robert Trebor is superb in the role of Maj. Viktor Davidykov, the Russian Chief of Police in whose hands the fate of Will Torrey rests. He's brusque, but has a straight-faced sense of humor that delights the audience. Trebor, who looks and sounds so incredibly like his character, is hands-down the favorite in this play." - Posted 2/25/2008

The photo (Shown Right) is from the play Ravensridge with Vaughn Armstrong, Jon Sklaroff, and Robert Trebor. Photo Credit: Mieke Kramer

From Neal Weaver for Backstage: "…..excellent performance by Trebor as the cynical but honest Russian officer…..there's a touch of agitprop in the stereotypic characters, but the actors flesh them out nicely, and Trebor finds wry comedy in his scenes." - Posted March 05, 2008

While Online, I found a few more articles for you all to enjoy on Ravensridge:

From Steven Stanley for LA Stage Scene: "One of the most intriguing aspects of Cook’s play is the way in which Will and Viktor come to see each other as more than propaganda stereotypes. Viktor is astounded to learn that there are actually labor strikes in America. At the same time, he defies Will’s expectations of a Russian communist. Absolutely convincing as Viktor, Robert Trebor captures the Major’s sternness, his humanity, and his sense of humor as well. Though he speaks with a strong Russian accent, his speech is peppered with American slang, much of which he seems to have picked up from the phrase book he has always at hand, and which he consults whenever Will comes up with an expression he’s not yet heard, like “spider to a fly.” When Will finally uses the word “freedom,” Viktor is overjoyed. (He and his cronies had placed bets on how soon he would utter “the F word.”) When Lilly is allowed into the interrogation room to speak to Will, Viktor tells them, “I will leave you two alone…except for the TV cameras of course.” - Posted February 29, 2008

From March 3, 2008: Bob wrote in to say:
"Rave reviews have been pouring in for Ravensridge."

Ravenridge The photo shown (Left) is from the Play Ravensridge with Vaugn Armstrong, Jon Sklaroff and Robert Trebor. (Photo Credit goes to Mieke Kramer)

From Terry Morgan for Variety: "Ravensridge (Fremont Center Theater; 70 seats; $35 top) A Fremont Center Theater in association with the California Performing Arts Center and James & Lissa Reynolds presentation of a play in one act by T. S. Cook. Directed by James Reynolds. Will Torrey - Vaughn Armstrong, Major Viktor Davidykov - Robert Trebor, Lilly Matthews - Emily Adams, Mikhail Tamarygen - Jed Reynolds, Richard Miller - Jon Sklaroff, Russian Prison Guard/ FBI Agent - Dean Sponseller, Troubadour - Kim Story.

"Serious political plays are as rare as honest politicians these days -- as an audience, we seem to prefer our politics leavened by humor. A good serious political play is rarer still, which makes T.S. Cook's thoughtful if despairing "Ravensridge" all the more valuable. The piece isn't perfect -- some of the dialogue feels a bit stereotypical, a troubadour singing union-centered folk songs between scenes is a heavy-handed device, and a love story subplot is simply unnecessary -- but what Cook gets right is witty and powerful. The world premiere production at the Fremont Center Theater succeeds as a galvanizing drama under James Reynolds' lucid direction, and benefits from a talented cast.

In 1992, American steel worker and union member Will Torrey (Vaughn Armstrong) has been incarcerated in a Russian prison. Torrey is being investigated for a charge of possible murder, interrogated by Major Viktor Davidykov (the palindromic Robert Trebor). Torrey's steel-working union in Ravensridge, West Virginia, had been victim to a corporate lockdown, where all the employees were forcibly replaced by nonunion workers. When Torrey discovered that the owner of the company, Richard Miller (Jon Sklaroff), was evading U.S. indictment by hiding out in Russia, he went to Russia to talk to the man, but accidentally ended up killing a Russian thug trying to keep him away from his old boss. At first, Torrey believes that Davidykov is trying to punish him for the collapse of the Soviet Union, but when Miller finally arrives, the two men recognize they have more in common than they had realized.

Armstrong is sympathetic as the well-meaning if out-of-his-depth Torrey, and a moment at the end of the play where he realizes what his actions have cost him is moving. Trebor is superb as the acerbic Davidykov, ironically bemoaning, "We used to be such a beautiful police state," and then affectingly describing how for all of communism's faults, how important it was that the whole country was experiencing it together. Trebor's Russian accent is excellent, and his perf is multilayered and nimble.

Although Sklaroff doesn't walk onstage till the final third of the play, he dominates it completely. His Miller is an initially soothing snake who charms and disarms Torrey almost effortlessly. When Torrey begins to see through his facade, Miller's cold ruthlessness is revealed, his every word dripping with contempt. Sklaroff's calmly reasonable delivery of his chilling climactic speech is the highlight of an extraordinary perf. Jed Reynolds (who also delivers a great Russian accent) and Emily Adams are very good in their roles as a Russian Junior Officer and Torrey's fellow steel worker, respectively. Victoria Profitt's gray, bifurcated set is efficient, if not inspired.

Sets, Victoria Profitt; costumes, Lois Tedrow; lighting, Carol Doehring; sound, Dick Spaulding; production stage manager, Craig Hare. Opened Feb. 23, 2008, reviewed Feb. 29; runs through March 30. Running time: 1 HOUR, 25 MIN." - Posted: Sun., Mar. 2, 2008, 3:35pm PT

And you are correct, it is me narrating the fan re-enactment segments.

Regarding my other current release, Ebert and Roeper actually showed a bit of my sequence on their Sunday TV show when they reviewed the Devil's Rejects....they loved my character, altho they didn't mention my name. Here's a link to the audio of their review....my character is highlighted toward the end of the review. (plus Jiminy Glick in October....they have said I will be more present on the DVD extra sections)."

HOW COOL!!! :) To think that this very site is listed in the DVD is EXCITING to me!!! :) The Interview was GREAT and very FUNNY!!! Definately worth seeing!!! Also, Bob confirmed that it is him "narrating the fan re-enactment segments."

Bob wrote in to say: "Also, the Devil's Rejects opens July 22, and I've already received a couple of favorable reviews from online critics.

<<There's also some very cool little scenes in the middle of the movie that have little to do with the story, but work to expand the Rejects universe, like a conversation between Sheriff Wydell and a movie critic about the names of the Rejects (taken after Groucho Marx characters) that then turns into a discussion about Elvis Presley.>>

And from the Fangoria online web review (by MICHAEL GINGOLD): (referring to Sheriff Wydell) <<The madness of his obsession, and the lengths he’ll go to satiate it, make him little different from the Fireflys themselves; they just happen to be on opposite sides of the law. (When he realizes the roots of the Fireflys’ names, Wydell consults with a local film critic, a pompous nerd—played by an uncredited Robert Trebor—who may represent Zombie getting a little payback of his own.)>>"

Bob plays Marty Walker, "the world's foremost Marx Bros. expert (playing opposite William Forsythe)" in the movie "The Devil's Rejects" was Released in Theaters on July 22, 2005 (and is now on DVD), the original release date was August 12, 2005, so it got pushed up 3 weeks. The police raid the family and Baby, Otis, Captain Spaulding and the rest head out. Rumor is that a prostitute named Candy falls for Otis. Get ready for a nation-wide killing spree!" Bob and Louise in the UK Many Thanks to Louise for sending in this photo of Bob and her report of when she met him in England. Louise said, "Basically, I met him a few years ago (suppose it must have been around 1998-99) when he did an appearance at Ace Comics in Colchester, Essex, UK. They hadn't done the best of promos and when I arrived he was surrounded by one Xena fan and a load of grammar school boys on their lunch break! He was fantastic though, even though some of them probably didn't know who he was they were engrossed in what he was talking about. A real entertainer! Listened to some of his stories, bought a photo & a copy of his book for him to sign, & asked a couple of questions about what he was up to etc. He seemed delighted that I knew about his upcoming projects and that I had taken the day off work especially to go see him! I then nipped off to get a disposable camera so I could get some pics! When I got back had him to myself really, which was fab as I got to chat to him for quite a while. I can't recall all of what was said but I do remember asking him if he could play any other character in Xena who would it be, and he answered Callisto! He talked about how great Lucy & Renee were to work with, and how he had enjoyed touring England. He then posed for a pic with me, and also with my boyfriend at the time (now an ex!). I've sent the pic with me in, don't think ex would appreciate appearing on the web hehe! Shame cuz it's a great shot of Bob. I'll see if I can edit it somehow."

LA WEEKLY

THEATER REVIEWS

Monday, March 12, 2007 - 3:00 pm

"(GO) THE RETURN OF BROTHER THEODORE Theodore Gottlieb was a New York comic from Bavaria, once imprisoned in Dachau and forced to sell his familyís estate to the Nazis for a single Deutschmark. Part Edgar Allen Poe, part Dracula, this prince of darkness built a standup act (described as "standup tragedy") on lunatic, pointless rants that flipped reasoned logic on a griddle and fried it until scorched. A bit player in movies and a voice-over artist, Gottlieb also appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson as well as Late Night With David Letterman until his death in 2001. Because of his pre-goth dark turtleneck, Joey Bishop dubbed him Brother Theodore, and actor Robert Trebor reincarnates Gottlieb in a 45-minute late-night solo performance that paints Brother Theodore's belligerent reflections on a twisted life with broad yet powerful comedic strokes. A squat, impish man with bushy eyebrows, Trebor points out victims in the dark theater with a flashlight. He hit on the woman next to me, who was squinting in the flashlightís beam while the comedian, with a thick German accent, laid on ludicrously anachronistic and crude pickup lines, accompanied by a relentless glare. He also launched into a extended soliloquy on the folly of eating. (All dead civilizations ate food, and look where they are now, a cautionary tale to be sure.) "It ís better not to be born, but who is as lucky as that!" Brother Theodore rails, along with the joke that lies at this show's heart: "If not for my madness, I would have gone insane years ago." Camelot Artists at the SKYLIGHT THEATRE, 1816 and 1/2 Vermont Ave., Los Feliz; Sat., 10 p.m.; thru April 14. (310) 358-9936. (Steven Leigh Morris)"

Brother Theodore is reincarnated! January 8, 2007: BOB wrote in with the following: "I've attached a card (Shown Left) for the new one-man show I'm putting together. We're starting it off at Midnight in Hollywood to see if we can get an audience at that hour. The full run will be thru March and April with an extension if the crowds warrant it. I'm doing a piece of this show in Burbank at the Xena Convention this Friday night.

Happy New Year, Bob"

From March 31, 2007, Bob wrote in to say, "Here's a new review from the Jewish Journal that just came out about my show:

Theater: 'Brother Theodore' back from the dead
By Robert David Jaffee, Contributing Writer

Brother Theodore was born Theodore Gottlieb, a well-to-do Jewish German publishing scion whose family was wiped out in the Holocaust. Gottlieb survived Dachau and tried to transmute his pain into a one-man show that gained a cult following. His moniker derived from his ubiquitous black turtleneck shirt, thought by Merv Griffin to resemble priestly attire.

Equal parts existentialist rant and theater of the absurd, Robert Trebor's "The Return of Brother Theodore," now playing at the Skylight Theater, honors the late monologist, who died in 2001 at 94, with a performance that combines the deceased's black-comedy act with some of Trebor's own writing.

Like Brother Theodore, the palindromically named Trebor also underwent a name change, when he was a student at Northwestern because another actor in Chicago had a surname similar to his, Schenkman.

Since then, Trebor, 53, has appeared in such diverse film and TV projects as "The Purple Rose of Cairo," "Talk Radio" and "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys." A character actor, he has long thrived on using different accents in his many roles -- Russian, French and, of course, German.

As Brother Theodore, he sounds a little like one of the 'Hitlers' lining up to try out for the Führer's part in Mel Brooks' original film, "The Producers."

Trebor comes onto the stage preceded by over-the-top organ music right out of a Vincent Price/Roger Corman production from the 1960s.

With the same squat build and all-black outfit of his namesake, who performed a midnight Saturday show for years at the 13th Street Theater in Greenwich Village, Trebor's Brother Theodore sounds off on the big topics -- life and death -- and the role played by food in those matters.

He interacts with the audience in a seemingly improvised fashion, lasering his flashlight on a few attendees, asking to be "flashed" by another. But the show is scripted quite carefully.

There are no references to the Holocaust until the very end, when a tape plays Brother Theodore's imagined conversation with a wartime reparations commission; on that tape he accepts payment for the plasma and body parts of his murdered relatives. It is only then that Trebor's character removes his ironic smile and listens with horror to a kind of Shylockian "pound of flesh" exchange.

Whether or not you remember Brother Theodore from his appearances on the "Tonight Show," "The Merv Griffin Show" and "Late Night With David Letterman," "The Return of Brother Theodore" will shock and rivet you with its digressions and dark irony.

"Brother Theodore" plays through April 14, Saturdays, 10 p.m, at the Skylight Theater, 1816 1/2 Vermont Ave., Los Feliz. (310) 358-9936."

February 2006: Bob wrote in to say: "And even more importantly I was just cast as Boolie (the part Dan Ackroyd got an Oscar nomination for) in Driving Ms. Daisy starring Charlotte Rae and Antonio Fargas. It will be playing 4 performances only in Lexington, KY at the Lexington Opera House Feb 17, 18 19. There will be two performances on the 18th. Check out "Lexington Opera House".

Argo Awards Show:

In 1997 Dave (DdP) came up with a WONDERFUL Idea called the Argo Awards! It is kinda a cross between the 'People's Choice Awards' and the 'Oscars'. : ) Dave and his buddy Gene would make a list of categories and items to choose from from a Season of Xena: Warrior Princess and Xena Fans would vote on their Favorites. The 1st Argo Awards were based on the favorites from Season 2 and was held in a regular Chat room, but it was kinda hard to follow as the scrolling text flew by the screen. The next year The Argo Awards moved to the Warrior Palace.

The Warrior Palace is a Graphical chat room in which you can be seen as little Happy Faces (called Avitars) or "dress-up in costumes" and be just about any character from a cartoon or use a photo of an actor. The text that you type does not scroll, but is printed next to your Avitar in bubble fashion, like in a comic book. : ) The 2nd Argo Awards were held on June 10, 1998 and were based on the favorites from Season 3. Click HERE to See photos from screenshots of the Awards. The Awards were held in the Whoosh! room at the Palace and we all jammed in there and had a few mishaps, but it was GREAT!!! : ) Due to having a website based on the wonderful and varied actors from Xena and Hercules, I was asked to present the award for the "Best Guest Performance In An Episode" (Jacqueline Kim as Lao-Ma in "The Debt 2").

Who's Afraid of the Big Black Wolf? Now, Here is how I first "met" BOB...The 3rd Argo Awards were held on June 14, 1999 and were based on the favorites from Season 4. Bob was asked to be the Master of Ceremonies and be the Host to the Argo Awards. I was asked to help give Bob a quick tutorial and give him a "costume" to wear. I made several Salmoneus costumes for Bob to choose from and he chose the one from the Xena episode "The Black Wolf" (Shown Right). Now, this is the first time we are using the Moderator software and it kept acting up and shutting down. We finally get everything running, but Bob's "costume" kept breaking up. : ) Basically the costumes are like puzzle pieces and it can have many pieces to show the whole picture. Bob kept loosing 1 out of 4 pieces, so you could "see thru" his photo...the stomach portion was missing. This of course only fuled Bob's comic sense and he made the best of this situation with several visual gags as well as many jokes about it. Robert Trebor is listed as "Member 6997" in the transcript of the event. I presented the award for the "Best Guest Performance In An Episode" category (Kathryn Morris as Najara in "Crusader") and also read a note that Claire Stansfield (Alti) had written to me to read for the event. : ) Bob was SUPER and this was such a fun event!!! : )

The 4th Argo Awards were held on June 15, 2000 and were based on favorites from Season 5. In this event we had a Very Special Surprise Guest: Claire Stansfield (Alti)!!! I helped tutor her and made her costumes and we snuck her into the awards under the name: ALTI. : ) So, as you read the transcript, every time you see the name ALTI, it is Claire typing. I presented the award for the "Best Guest Performance In An Episode" category (Hudson Leick as Callisto in "Fallen Angel") and had some info on Tony Todd.

The 5th Argo Awards were held on July 28, 2001and were based on favorites from Season 6. Click HERE to read a Transcript. I presented the award for the "Best Guest Performance In An Episode" category (Claire Stansfield as Alti in "When Fates Collide"). I also had a couple notes from Adrienne Wilkinson and Bob Trebor!!! He had such a FUNNY note from his book... : )

The 6th Argo Awards were held at the palace on January 26, 2002 and was renamed to The Argo Legacy Awards as this was the Awards event where we chose the best from ALL of the 6 seasons of Xena. Check out the Official site with Info, Chat Transcript and photos from the event. I got several of the stars to the event including: Tony Todd (Cecrops, Gladius, King Giglimesh), Darien Takle (Xena's MOM Cyrene!), Steve Sears and Katherine Fugate (Writer). Jeff Lundrigan was also there! I helped tutor and also made the costumes for Tony, Darien, Steve and Jeff! : ) There are also MANY Great Letters from the stars that wrote me including: BOB, Adrienne Wilkinson (Eve/Livia), Josh Becker (Writer and Director of Many Xena episodes), Jeremy Roberts (Thersites, Aidan), Paris Jefferson (Athena), Paul Norell (Falafel), and Katie Stuart (Genia)! I presented the award for the "Best Guest Performance In An Episode" category (Jacqueline Kim as Lao Ma in "The Debt, part 1"). I also did the award for Best Kevin Smith Episode (Coming Home). It was a BLAST having so Many Great people there! The Awards went longer than 3 hours and we were all getting a little rowdy towards the end! : ) I am so sorry to see it come to a close! The Argo Awards were such a highlight to my year! I will miss the whole Argo Gang! You guys are the best and I hope you all stay in touch!!! Sad to see Xena: Warrior Princess end, but at least it can live on in reruns on Oxygen! : )

Logomancy has a Wonderful site that recaps what happened during the Argo Awards with Salmoneus as the Narrator: 1997 Live Simulcast, 1998 Live Simulcast, 1999 Live Simulcast, 2000 Live Simulcast, and 2001 Live Simulcast.

Bob wanted me to add the link to: "Humanitarian and Emergency Aid to Refugees and Other Victims of Persecution, Exile, and War".

Bob did not request this link, but I thought I would add it here as it has to do with Palindromes. Robert Trebor is a Palindrome, meaning it is spelled the same way forwards and backwards, same as BOB! : ) Also, check out Janet's Wordplay and Puzzle Site.
